Gray for Glioblastoma
What is Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM)?
A grade IV astrocytoma, fast-growing and aggressive malignant brain tumor found in the brain or spinal cord. The cause of glioblastoma is unknown and there is no known method for prevention. Since GBM is extremely resistant to conventional therapies, treatment protocol usually involves surgery, after which chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be used. Even then, only 25% of GBM patients survive over a year. Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children and the 10th in adults.
Founded by Katherine Snedeker, a current UT Austin Senior, Gray for Glioblastoma is a registered 501(c)(3) organization raising much needed awareness and funding for Glioblastoma Multiforme research while simultaneously creating a hopeful and positive space for all impacted by brain cancer. Katherine’s dad, her best friend, biggest mentor and the most incredible and involved father, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor in May of 2021. After his diagnosis, Katherine anxiously searched the internet and social media platforms for glioblastoma resources and awareness and sadly discovered little of either and a lot of pessimistic and difficult information. This is when she knew she needed to use her action based personality and her passion for philanthropy and event planning to find a way to make a difference in the brain cancer space. Gray for Glioblastoma continues to be Katherine’s passion every day in memory of her father, Craig, who passed in March of 2023 after almost a two year battle with Glioblastoma. Our organization has gifted over $200,000 to support GBM research projects at renowned cancer centers including Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital LA/Saban Research Institute and The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke.
Net profits are donated to glioblastoma research
